This lady is the ninety year old grandmother of my Ciyawo language helper. She was alive around ten years before the Portuguese settlement of Lichinga (now the capital of Mozambique's Niassa Province) even existed. I've been meaning to ask her what she remembers of the slave trade. The Yawo people, the tribe of which she is a part, were once successful slave traders.
